Day 2 - Gratitude - Co-Workers

Today is Day 2 of my 7 day Gratitude Challenge. Each day that I wake up I have a lot to be thankful for. Thankful not just for the big things or the things that are obvious  but just being grateful for the little things that can make a difference in how my day turns out.

Today's Gratitude: I am grateful for my "Co-Workers" 

We spend more time at work with our co-workers than we do with our own families and friends. Our co-workers are our extended family and when you are fortunate to find a bunch that you get along with, work well together, respect each other and can laugh and joke about anything you are extremely blessed.

 I have spent many years in work environments that was the opposite of where I am now and I didn't look forward to going into work each day. I thank God for delivering me and putting me in a better place.

I am blessed to work with a fantastic group of people. What I love about them is we are all around the same age and we have a lot in common. We know when its time to get serious and when it's time to kick back and have great conversation about a variety of topics.

Even though I have to get up earlier and travel a little further to get to work. I look forward to seeing my co-workers everyday and this is something that I am truly grateful to have.

7 Day Gratitude Challenge - Day 1

Today I decided to challenge myself to blog post for 7 straight days. Gratitude is a topic that is always at the front of my mind. I have so much to be grateful for in my life and at times it doesn't always show. So to keep it in the front of my mind this week. I am challenging myself to post for sevens days, what I am grateful for each day. Today's begins the first post. 

Gratitudethe quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

Today's Gratitude - I am grateful for waking up this morning "Pain Free" 

Last week Tuesday while at the gym, I experienced the worst toothache that stopped me right in my tracks. I was in the middle of working out when this pain came out of no where. I had to immediately find the nearest pharmacy so I could purchase some Tylenol.

If you have ever experienced pain and taken over the counter medication, you know it temporarily relieves the pain and the effects don't last long. I found myself taking two Tylenol every 4 -5 hours.

This occurred in the evening, no dentist office open for to me call or go to. I suffered with the pain off and on all night and got very little sleep. The next morning I called my dentist office and couldn't get an appointment until Thursday afternoon. See I am very fearful of the dentist so the chance of me going to someone that I don't know was not going to happen.

I had to make it through Wednesday and the morning of Thursday. I called my doctor and she was able to call in a prescription to my local pharmacy for something stronger to hold me over until my appointment the next day.

No only was I in pain, I wasn't able to eat soft foods. Just touching my wisdom tooth shot pain through out my entire body.

It's been a long time since I have had any type of excruciating pain that totally took over my life. The morning after getting my tooth pulled and everyday after I wake up feeling so grateful for being Pain Free.

Decisions! Decisions!

I hear some people say it's either by luck, chance or prayer when your kid gets into their first choice or any one of the many colleges that they have applied to during the college process. I can so understand when they say that, since I can now say that at this point I have gone through the process and know what to expect.

All the planning, researching, tutoring, testing, applications, deadlines and waiting patiently has lead to the light at the end of the tunnel. With great anticipation all acceptance and rejection letters have come in and now its decision making time.

Thinking over this whole process that started back in the fall of her junior year and here we are now almost at the end of the journey. It was exciting, puzzling and stressful all at the same time.

When I entered this college process with my daughter, It was difficult for me to step back and let her take the lead, but I knew I had to. This was the beginning of her journey to being an adult. It was hard, but knowing that she had her guidance counselor at school and her mentors at her after school programs working with her to facilitate the process gave me a peace of mind.

However, the parent in me at times couldn't resist the urge to question and remind her about important deadlines or check to see how things are going, even though, I know she is meticulous when it comes keeping and updating her calendar/to do list.

Now we are at the decision stage, more school tours, lots of taking notes, comparing schools and conversation will be happening over the next two - three weeks.  May 1 is decision day.

I will be sharing more about this process, my personal experiences and my thoughts about the college process when it's final.

A New Day!

I am not perfect but I strive to live right each day, but I fail most days.  I don't always act the way I should, I don't think the thoughts that I should and I don't always speak the way that I should. I have days and moment when I am just not in sync with Gods plan for me.

Sometimes I image God looking down from heaven at me shaking his head,  when I find myself in one of those situations.

But you know the good thing about it is, he is compassionate, patient, loving and merciful. He knows that I am not perfect and there will days and times when I slip up and act like a fool.

He doesn't hold my mistakes or bad behavior over my head, his love is endless and his mercy is new every morning. I don't have to walk around beating up myself or feeling guilt for my mistakes. I can look forward to a new day filled with his promises of love and mercy.

Each day, each minute I get the opportunity turn it around and make it right. He forgives me, he loves me, he has patience with me.

Tips for Eating Healthy on the Job

For those of you that work outside the home,you know the struggle with trying to eat healthy when you're at work. Every where I turn at the work place there is temptation. It start out with the reception area, bowls of bit size pieces of individually wrapped chocolate, mints and hard candy.

Then there is the kitchen, vending machines filled with healthy and not so healthy options. At least once a week someone leaves a cake or a container of goodies that was received from a client on one of the tables in the kitchen.

Then you have these co-workers that bake on the weekends and they bring in a batch of homemade brownies or cookies for the team every week.

How in the world am I suppose to stay focused on my healthy eating journey if I am surrounded by such temptation.

Here is my trick for fighting this evilness.

I meal prep on the weekends. I bring my breakfast and lunch four to five days week. If I don't bring my lunch. I usually get a large kale salad loaded with lots of veggies or I will order salmon and veggies from a local restaurant.

Along with breakfast and lunch I prep my snacks also. I always keep healthy snacks on hand so I am not tempted to over indulge. My snack bag usually contains;

  • Popcorn
  • Fruits 
  • Pretzels
  • Hummus
  • Peanut butter sandwich on low calorie whole wheat bread
  • Vegetable - carrots, cucumbers
  • Nuts
Now there are times that I will sample some of the goodies, but in moderation. If I feel like having a piece of candy. I will only help myself to two individually wrapped pieces of candy and no more. 

If there are cookies or brownies I will take a very small piece,  enough to enjoy and savor the flavor without over indulging and having regrets.

Quotes to Inspire and Motivate

There are times when I lose motivation or life occurs and I get distracted from doing the things that I love.

I started keeping a running list of quotes that motivate and inspire me. I also write out my weekly quote on a mini chalk board so I an see it daily and be reminded.

As I surf the net and run into a good one I add to my current list. Anytime I feel distracted and unmotivated I turn to my quotes and select a few to meditate on until I lift out of the rut.

21 Days to Master Success & Inner Peace - Book Review

My reading list ranges from spiritual, self improvement to romance books. Currently on my reading list is the 21 Days to Master Success and Inner Peace by Dr Dwayne M Dyer. This was my first time reading one of his books and I was not disappointed at all.

There are 21 chapters, one for each day. This book is filled with inspiration, practical teaching and lots of thought provoking ideas.

This book drew me in from the first chapter. I read one chapter each week, took notes and really thought about how it applies to my life and situation. Seeing a little of myself in each chapter was an eye opener for me.

There were paragraphs in this book that just jumped right in my face. There was no denying that this was speaking directly to me. I know myself, my personality and my thought process and there are areas that I know needs to be changed, but when your are reading it on paper and you can identify with what you are reading so clearly, it has such a impact on you mentally.

Since finishing this book a week ago, I have started to read it again. Yes, it's one of those book that you will be referring back to again and again.

My Favorite chapters are 2, 9 & 14.

Chapter 2 - Be Attached to Nothing - Releasing your attachment to all the negative things you have trained yourself to believe  and open your mind to all possibilities

Chapter 9 - Give up your Personal History - Embracing your past history and letting go of it so you can move on.

Chapter 14 - Stop Looking for Occasions to be Offended - How to stop allowing yourself to be offended by people, things and circumstances.

I highly recommend this book, if you are looking to change and self improvement.

Healthy Beets, Carrots & Quinoa Veggie Burger

I love a good hamburger, but since I haven't eaten red meat in over 5 years I had to find a way to still enjoy the concept of a hamburger but in a healthier version. This is one burger that I can enjoy without worrying  about the extra added stuff that not so good for me


  • Beets pulps
  • Carrot pulps 
  • Cooked Quinoa 
  • Chopped green and red sweet peppers
  • Chopped jalapeno peppers 
  • Chopped garlic
  • Chopped onions
  • Olive oil ( or any oil of your choice)  
  • 1 Tablespoon of powdered flax seed (use in place of eggs)

Fresh Carrot & Beet Juice Smoothie

For 2016 I seriously stepped up my healthy eating and drinking game. Smoothies are a major must have in my daily diet. Consuming raw fruits and vegetables daily give my body the nutrients it need to function at peak performance. This smoothie is quick to prepare if you juice your vegetables ahead of time.

It's so important as we get older to be more conscious of our diet. Consuming more whole foods is much better for our body. It aids the body in so many different ways, replacing nutrients and vitamins that is lost due to the aging process the body is going through.

10 Things To Do When You Are Snowed In

Today NYC finally got hit with its first big snow storm of the season. Considering that we've had such nice weather for the fall leading into winter, the snow was long over due.  What I am most grateful for is that it's all happening on the weekend, I don't have to go out and fight with the elements.  Being snowed in are the best days. There are so many things that can be done that sometimes you just don't get to do. Here are the things that I planned on getting done today.  So far today, I have accomplished two of the ten.

2. Get your workout in. A lot of time we are so busy with work and family that we neglect this  part       of our life

5.Catch upon reading and commenting on your favorite social media sites

6. Write and pre-schedule next weeks blog post

8. Get in the kitchen and try out that new recipe that you have saved. 

9. Clean out your closets.

8 Tips for Building a Better Relationship with your Teenager

My teenager will be 18 this fall. The time just seems to be flying by so quickly. I remember the day she was born, like it was yesterday. I call her my miracle baby, she was delivered by emergency c-section, 2 months early, weighting 1 lb 12 oz. But the miracle is she was fully developed and she survived.  God does work miracles!

I am a single parent and raising a child in a one parent household is not easy. But with Gods help, we made it and she will be on her way to college in  the fall. I wanted to share a few tips that I learned along this journey that worked for me.

Right Where I Should Be!

Thurday's Thoughts and Reflection. 


Today as I sat at my desk at work just doing my job. This thought pop into my head " I am right where I should be" I have to confess that after seven months of being on this job, I really still like being there.

This is something I can't really say about my previous jobs. What I like about this place is the culture. Part of their mission statement is "Value People". They do there best to live up to this statement. They not only talk the talk, they walk the walk.

Basic and Classic

I work in a corporate environment,  so I invest in a lot of basic pieces for my work wardrobe. I stick with neutral colors that I can coordinate with other pieces that I already own. Neutral colors makes it easier for me to add color but still maintain the corporate dress code.  Basic pieces for me are button down shirts in a variety of colors. Trousers in all styles, a great fitting jacket, skirts, dresses and classic pumps.

Having these basic staples in my closet makes it so much easier for me to coordinate an outfit to wear in mornings.  I am not one of those people that rolls out the bed as soon as the alarm goes off, I roll over and hit the snooze button a couple of times before I actually get up.

I give my self exactly one hour to get ready and head out the door. So for me staples are a must, it makes my life so much easier in the morning. Visible Monday - Not Dead Yet Style here I come.

Adding pearls to any outfit gives it a classic look.

Walking in Their Shoe!

We all find ourselves in difficult situations at times, sometimes we end up in these situations because of our own doing or sometimes life brings it to us.

I read stories on the internet about people in difficult situations and some were able to get out and others had to live through it.

Sometimes we can be so quick to judge people or offer up negative opinion and comments on a situation that we have never ever experienced personally. It is always easier to do when you are on the outside looking in and you are not the one dealing with the physical and mental stress.
